Golf, like all sports, comes with a risk of personal injury, or inflicting accidental damage on a third party. There is also the risk of theft or damage to equipment that can be very expensive. Nine out of ten golfers don’t have adequate insurance to cover them whilst on a golf course, but it is vital that you choose the correct cover for you and that you are covered for all eventualities. However, comparing different golf insurance policies and choosing which ones offer you cover against all possible outcomes at a price you can afford can be difficult.

Things to consider when comparing golf insurance policies are whether or not the policy covers you for theft, accidental damage, personal liability, personal accident, golfer’s accidental damage to third person and hole in one cover. Normal household insurance is not designed to provide all the protection you need when playing golf, especially not against third party golf related public liability claims or personal accidents. In 1987, a UK appeal court ruled that golfers can no longer rely on shouting ‘fore’ as a defence and it is therefore very important to protect yourself against liability. It is also important to remember that if you wish to play outside of the UK worldwide cover is necessary.

There are wide variations of cover offered by many internet based golf insurance companies, and they can offer cheaper golf insurance by removing traditional brokerage margins.

Choosing a policy which includes this means that, should you achieve that desirable hole in one shot, you will be covered against the large bar bills which will certainly accompany your success!
