Titleist Golf Bag
STATS: The local golf store sells an “onion bag” that contains 35 “experienced” Golf Balls.?
Suppose the bag contains 20 Titleists, 8 Maxflis, and 7 Top-Flights. If you randomly select 4 balls, find the probability that you get at least one Titleist.
The answer is: 0.9739
However I cannot find out how to get this answer.

SOLVE without using the combination rule nCr. ( such as 20/35 * 15/35 )
If you were to select four balls from this bag, then the number of Titleists that you can get can be either 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4. Since getting 1, 2, 3, or 4 would get you at least one Titleist, then it would probably be easier to find the probability of getting 0 Titleists and subtracting from 1.
P(At least one Titleist) = 1 – P(No Titleists)
= 1 – P(1st is not Titleist and 2nd is not Titleist and 3rd is not Titleist and 4th is not Titleist)
Since there are “ands” in this probability, you should multiply. These balls are being drawn without replacement, so be sure to keep track of what kind of balls have been drawn previously before finding the current probability.
= 1 – (15/35)(14/34)(13/33)(12/32)
= 0.9739305
The above poster found the answer assuming the balls are replaced each time. He might change his answer later. And just so he knows, I didn’t give him a thumbs down.
