PGA betting action for this week will start on Thursday at 11:30pm EST with the 2011 Farmers Insurance Open odds from the Torrey Pines Golf Courses in San Diego, California. The Farmers Insurance Open will tee off on January 27th and run through the 30th with a total purse of $954,000 USD and will be offering 500 FedExCup points. Ben Crane is the defending champion but the return of Tiger Woods to the course is who online bookmakers are really worried about. Sportsbooks have listed Woods +230 as the PGA betting favorite followed by Phil Mickelson +1200, Dustin Johnson +1500 and Rickie Fowler +2000. Crane +3300 has opened as a longshot along with Nick Watney +2000 in 2011 Farmers Insurance Open odds that can be seen on the Golf Channel and CBS.
Woods will be making his 2011 debut on Thursday and will be teeing off at 12:49pm EST accompanied by Rocco Mediate and Anthony Kim +1250. It will be a familiar pairing for Woods and Mediate who lit up Augusta in the 2008 U.S. Open while Kim is still trying to rebuild his game after many injuries in 2010. Woods comes into Farmers Insurance odds as the PGA betting favorite after winning this event at Torrey Pines a total of seven times. Mickelson is the second choice to win the 2011 Famers Insurance Open despite coming off a disappointing 19-strokes off at Abu Dhabi. However, Mickelson has won a total of tree times at Torrey Pines and offers plenty of value at +1200. Dustin Johnson rounds out the top three PGA betting choices after finishing tied for 9th in the Hyundai Tournament of Champions.
Johnson finished 11th last year in FedExCup standings but has only played one event this season and currently sits in 40th position with 75-points. Johnson will tee off at 1:10pm EST with Mickelson and Justin Rose +3000. Rickie Fowler enters 2011 Farmers Insurance Open odds as a PGA betting longshot having yet to play on a course this year. Fowler finished 19th in FedExCup standings last season with 20-cuts and 7-top ten finishes. Fowler will tee off on Thursday with two other longshots in Marc Leishman +7000 and Charles Howell III +2350 at 1:10pm EST. It will be interesting to see how Bob Crane handles the course this week in San Diego after missing the cut for the past two weeks. Crane has played one event this season and currently sits in 55th position of the FedExCup standings with 50-points.
2011 Farmers Insurance Open Picks: Dustin Johnson +1500
